International Perspectives on Hydrogen at H2.R

On April 3, 2025, the H2.R Hydrogen Roundtable Regensburg: International Edition organised by Cluster Mobility & Logistics and Green Tech Cluster took place. The webinar focused on international projects, infrastructure challenges, and economic opportunities in the hydrogen sector.

Whilst former events focused mostly on regional projects, as it is clear that we cannot manage the transformation alone this time we invited international speakers to broaden the perspective and encourage cross-border collaboration.

Hydrogen Mobility in and around Aberdeen

Regensburg’s twin city Aberdeen showcased its hydrogen mobility initiatives, which include hydrogen-powered buses, trucks, and refueling stations. The city has been investing in hydrogen since 2013 and has developed one of Europe’s largest and most varied hydrogen-powered vehicle fleets. The talks from Laura Paterson (Aberdeen City Council) and Amy Perry (Energy Transition Zone) also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing hydrogen infrastructure. Among the initiatives presented was the planned Hydrogen Campus, which aims to provide infrastructure for training, research, and demonstration of hydrogen technologies.

The Green Transport Delta – Hydrogen in the Netherlands

Freek de Bruijn, RAI Automotive Industry NL, introduced the Green Transport Delta - Hydrogen project from the Netherlands. This project aims to further develop three key hydrogen technologies for sustainable mobility: Hydrogen combustion engines, fuel cells and a next-generation hydrogen refueling infrastructure technology. These three main developments are related to cross-sectoral mobility applications for the automotive, marine, and non-road mobile machinery sectors.
