H2.R Regensburg: Hydrogen - from production to practice

04/29/2024

Second event of the Regensburg Hydrogen Round Table

The Regensburg H2.R hydrogen round table organized by Cluster Mobility & Logistics and the Green Tech Cluster aims to make current and planned hydrogen projects in the Regensburg area visible and promote networking and knowledge exchange in the region

The focus of the second H2.R event "Hydrogen - from production to practice" was therefore on practical experience. Participants were treated to three interesting presentations by representatives from science and industry on April 25, 2024, which highlighted various aspects of hydrogen technology.

Founder & CEO Dr. Tobias Gärtner from ESy-Labs, a member of the HY2.ZERO innovation network, kicked things off with "Electrifying Synthesis". The Regensburg-based start-up focuses on organic electrosynthesis and the electrochemical recycling and upcycling of residual materials. ESy-Labs sees itself as a bridge between laboratory development and industrial application and is particularly concerned with the scaling of electrochemical processes in the cross-sectional area of regenerative energy generation and chemical conversion.

Dr. Andy Gradel, Managing Director of BtX energy, then presented "Green hydrogen from biogas". BtX energy has developed a sustainable alternative to electrolysis by producing hydrogen from biogas. This process offers a market-ready solution for CO2-negative hydrogen when using residual materials. Dr. Gradel provided insights into the technology, the current status of the pilot project and the legal framework

Anton Achhammer, research associate at the Research Center for Energy Networks and Energy Storage (OTH Regensburg), added the international perspective. He emphasized the importance of stable international partnerships and a stable legal framework for the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy. The H2Global meets Africa project aims to make it easier for African partner countries to enter the global hydrogen economy. Potentials and measures to promote a fair market ramp-up of hydrogen in Africa and transportation to Germany are relevant for this.

Save the Date: The next event of the Hydrogen Roundtable Regensburg H2.R will take place on September 26, 2024 at the Technology Campus Wörth-Wiesent.

NOTE
The event was part of the German government's transformation networks. The Regensburg-based project transform.r supports companies in coping with structural change in the automotive industry.
