Regensburg as Smart City

Regensburg is on its way to becoming a smart city - a sustainable, future-proof, intelligent city.
The REGENSBURG_NEXT funding project offers space for smart ideas and projects as well as open dialog in order to rediscover and reinvent our city together.

The district capital of the Upper Palatinate, UNESCO World Heritage Site, university city, innovation location and economic, scientific and cultural center of Eastern Bavaria is a nationwide Smart City model project that provides impetus for digital transformation in the region and beyond. Smart cities use the opportunities offered by information and networking technologies in the interests of sustainable and integrated urban development. The aim is to use the possibilities of digitalization and innovative solutions in all areas that make up life in our city.

As one of 28 selected municipalities, Regensburg is part of the third phase of the federal government's Smart Cities model projects funding program, which has the objective "Together out of the crisis: space for the future". Together with the integrated smart city strategy, a strategically well thought-out digital and smart ecosystem should create the basis for Regensburg to remain attractive and liveable - in line with the guiding principles of the New Leipzig Charter: fair, green and productive.
