As part of the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE project Drive2Transform, the comprehensive Transformation Readiness Index (TRI) for the automotive industry has been published.
What is the TRI?
The TRI assesses Europe’s readiness for transformation in key areas such as electrification, automation, connectivity, and platform economy. Developed by a consortium led by the Mobility & Logistics Cluster in Regensburg, the index helps regions and companies understand their position in the global transformation and derive targeted actions to enhance competitiveness.
Key insights from the project:
- Current Status: Most regions are rated as “moderately ready,” showing strengths in electrification and automation, but gaps in connectivity and platform economy.
- Success Factors: Infrastructure development, securing skilled labor, and governmental support (e.g., incentives, funding).
- Challenges: Labor shortages, high energy costs, and intense competition, particularly from Asia.
Objectives of the Readiness Index:
Comparability: Regions can measure their transformation readiness against others in Europe.
Actionable Insights: Concrete measures like infrastructure promotion, new business models, and support from regional clusters.
Innovation: Guidance for companies to align strategies with the future of mobility.
Comment from Steve Schumann (Mobility & Logistics Cluster):
“The Readiness Index provides us with a clear view of where Europe stands and what steps are necessary to take a leading role in the global transformation of the mobility industry.”
What’s coming in 2025?
The results will be presented at several events and conferences to engage companies, regions, and policymakers in dialogue – including in Budapest, Bolzano, and Regensburg.
Participation in the study is still possible. For any questions, please feel free to contact Anne Häner (anne.haenertechbase.de) or Steve Schumann (steve.schumanntechbase.de) from the Cluster Mobility & Logistics.
