Workshop to establish a new innovation network

12/10/2024

Focus on the application of language models (LLM) and robotics

On December 5, 2024, a workshop on building an innovation network with a focus on the application of language models (LLM) and robotics took place at the TechBase in Regensburg. The event, which was organized by the Cluster Mobility & Logistics in cooperation with the AIR Cluster and the transform.r project, brought together 60 committed participants from science, business and research. The aim was to gather innovative ideas and collaborations in this forward-looking field.

After an interactive Mentimeter survey on the expectations of the participants, Cluster Manager Uwe Pfeil opened the event. The results of the survey made it possible to respond directly to the expectations of the participants.

Two presentations provided important impetus and highlighted specific potential applications for LLM and robotics:

Prof. Dr. Michael Colombo from the Technological Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence presented the current state of control using language models under the title “The robot follows my every word” and gave a fascinating insight into the possibilities of modern robotics.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Linner and Prof. Dr. Obergrießer from OTH Regensburg highlighted the potential and limits of AI in the construction industry in their presentation. Their contribution illustrated how AI-based technologies can be used efficiently in a traditional industry.

The second part of the workshop focused on active collaboration. After a short coffee break, challenges and innovation ideas relating to LLM and robotics were collected. The resulting approaches were then presented in idea pitches. The great commitment of the participants and the wealth of ideas show how important a joint exchange is for the innovative strength of the region.

NOTE

The event is part of the German government's transformation networks. The Regensburg-based project transform.r supports companies in coping with structural change in the automotive industry.
