On 21 November 2024, the 3rd Bavarian Material Flow Congress took place at TechBase Regensburg, organized by the transformation network transform.r and the Cluster Mobility & Logistics. The event offered intralogistics solution providers and users from the region a platform to present current developments and experiences in intralogistics.

After a welcome address by Alexander Rupprecht, Managing Director of TechBase Regensburg GmbH, and Uwe Pfeil, Cluster Manager of the Cluster Mobility & Logistics, Prof. Dr. Markus Schneider from Landshut University of Applied Sciences gave the keynote speech on the topic of “Lean and sustainable production - do we need ‘space consumption’ as the eighth type of waste?”. He discussed the importance of space efficiency in production and its influence on sustainable processes.

Afterwards, specialist exhibitors presented their solutions, followed by a coffee break, which provided an opportunity to network and visit the trade exhibition.

In the afternoon, the almost 80 participants were able to attend one of the three specialist forums, which dealt with different aspects of modern intralogistics, depending on the main topic. The Robotics Forum focused on the use of mobile transport robots in intralogistics. Daniel Brandt from Innok Robotics GmbH showed how these robots can be used efficiently both indoors and outdoors. Simon Fürst from Omron Industrial Automation Europe addressed the challenges that can arise when integrating autonomous mobile robots (AMR) into existing production and logistics environments and presented possible solutions.

The second forum dealt with the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) in logistics. Markus Weissenbäck from Fraunhofer IIS presented how AI can be used in logistics processes to optimize workflows. The practical implementation of the technology was particularly emphasized. In her presentation, Myriam Klatt from Baitech Data GmbH introduced the further development of digital twins and explained how they can be used for company-wide simulation and faster decision-making.

The third forum focused on best practices in logistics. Thomas Lang from System Logistics GmbH highlighted current trends and challenges in intralogistics and provided an overview of innovative solutions. Stefan Aiglstorfer from TGW Software Services GmbH demonstrated the possibilities that visual intelligence and computer vision offer for logistics processes, in particular for increasing efficiency and automation.

The accompanying trade exhibition featured companies such as AyTec Automation GmbH, Halocline GmbH & Co. KG, H.G.L.® GmbH, Omron Electronics GmbH, OptWare GmbH, SimPlan AG, transform.r and XRify GmbH the opportunity to present their products and services.

The event was part of the German government's transformation networks. The Regensburg-based project transform.r supports companies in coping with structural change in the automotive industry.

The 3rd Bavarian Material Flow Congress offered participants valuable insights into current trends and developments in intralogistics and promoted the exchange between providers and users.
