On 14.11.2024, the Software Engineering Laboratory for Safe and Secure Systems (LaS³) at OTH Regensburg organized the first World Usability Day in Regensburg (WUD) since 2019 together with the Cluster Mobility & Logistics and the Digital Start-up Initiative Upper Palatinate (DGO).
The WUD is a globally organized event that brings together end users from research, industry and education and aims to raise awareness in the areas of usability and user experience (UX). In Germany, the WUD is coordinated by the Professional Association of German Usability and User Experience Professionals.
The motto of this year's WUD was “Designing for a Better World”. In two series of lectures with a total of five contributions, speakers from Krones and Syskron first gave insights into the challenges of modern UX design in industry and lean UX concepts. The second block of lectures included presentations on the European Digital Accessibility Act by the Regensburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Upper Palatinate / Kelheim, an excursion into modern 3D visualizations in urban planning and an introduction to eye-tracking as an evaluation method in usability/UX engineering.
The WUD 2024 Regensburg was organized as part of the EU-funded project “Digital Innovation Ostbayern” (DInO for short). In line with the aim of the WUD, DInO also wants to build bridges between research and industry as a European Digital Innovation Hub and thus impart knowledge. In addition to such events, DInO also offers free individual consultations, e.g. in the areas of eye-tracking, IT security and funding advice as well as start-up advice and international matchmaking events.
Many thanks to the sponsors City of Regensburg, Leyton Deutschland GmbH and Bischofshof, without whom the WUD 2024 Regensburg would not have been possible.
