On December 3, 2024, the Cluster Mobility & Logistics, together with the transform.r project and the Transformation Hub Automotive Software Engineering (TASTE), hosted a virtual Mobile Tuesday. The one-hour webinar provided insights into the forward-looking topic of software-defined vehicles (SDV) and answers to the question of where Germany currently stands on this topic.
The speaker, Oliver Denninger from the FZI Research Center for Information Technology, highlighted the impact of software-defined vehicles on the automotive industry and how this technology can revolutionize vehicle development and use. He showed how companies can use SDV to develop innovative, adaptable vehicles that update and expand their functions through software. A key point in the discussion was the need to bring innovation to the industry faster. It was emphasized that startups and SMEs from outside the industry, which are often faster and more flexible, must play a greater role in the development of new technologies. In order to integrate these companies into the innovation processes of OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) more quickly, greater use should be made of various models and open source technologies. These enable innovations to be introduced more quickly and promote collaboration across traditional industry boundaries, which can be particularly beneficial in the development of software-defined vehicles.
Mobile Tuesday is a regional meeting of experts from business, science and politics that focuses on e-mobility, connected and automated driving. The Cluster Mobility & Logistics organizes this networking event several times a year as a platform for exchanging information and experiences, but also to initiate projects and collaborations.
NOTE
The event was part of the German government's transformation networks. The Regensburg-based project transform.r supports companies in coping with structural change in the automotive industry.
